Buffie Longmire-Avital presents at international conference

Buffie Longmire-Avital, an assistant professor in psychology, presented her research poster, “HIV Risk and Depression: The Mediating Role of Partner Selection for Black American Women, ” at the international conference Advancing Excellence in Gender, Sex and Health Research sponsored by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research in Montreal from Oct. 28-30.

The research presented examined how the relationship between perceived risk for HIV and depression is mediated through the degree to which women reported that they compromised their personal standards in selecting a male sexual partner. Funding for this research was through the Hultquist New Faculty Research award.
