An 11 a.m. program in the LaRose Digital Theatre will recognize veterans for their service and sacrifice for country.

Elon University is hosting a Veterans Day Observance on Monday, Nov. 12, to honor the service of the men and women who have worn a military uniform on behalf of the United States of America.

The half hour service at 11 a.m. in the LaRose Digital Theatre inside the Koury Business Center is open to all veterans, family members of veterans or active/guard/reserve service members, and everyone who would like to show support for the veteran community.

Elon has played a critical role in developing leaders for the American armed forces dating to the school’s earliest years when 35 percent of the Elon College Class of 1918 volunteered to serve in the first World War.

The institution also served a pivotal role in training men for the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and today a robust ROTC program sends university graduates into the military each spring as commissioned officers.

The Veterans Day Organizing Committee would like to personally recognize veterans for their service during the Roll Call portion of the program. Veterans should respond via email (mvalle@elon.edu) if they plan to attend the observance and provide the following information in the reply: your name, service (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine), and dates of service.

Additionally, include one or two file pictures in the reply (.jpg), preferably of you in uniform, for use in our entry/exit slideshow.

Family Members/Friends: Organizers would like to personally recognize your veteran or active duty family member/friend during the Roll Call portion of the program. Please be ready to tell the audience the individual’s name, service (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine), and dates of service.
