Kontras means “contrasts” in violinist Francois Henkins’ native Afrikaans language. This ensemble met while members of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Touring since 2009, KQ brings fresh interpretations of the established string quartet canon. Currently the resident string quartet of the Western Piedmont Symphony in Hickory, N.C., they visit Elon to perform works by Schumann, Shostakovich and Schubert.
