elondocs production program subject receives recognition at VH-1 Do Something Awards

The subject of an Elon student-produced documentary will be honored at the awards show.

“Trafficked,” a short documentary by Elon University Communications students Mason Sklut, Katherine Wise and Olivia Pohl, centers on Jillian Mourning, a model from Charlotte, N.C., who was trafficked at 19 years old. She is now turning her personal experience with trafficking into an opportunity to help others.

In 2012, Mourning founded a non-profit, All We Want Is LOVE, which educates the youth and community about trafficking. Now, she will be honored as a finalist in VH-1’s Do Something Awards competition, which airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.

Mourning is among six nominees who are being recognized as the nation’s best young world-changers younger than 25.

Sklut, Wise and Pohl made “Trafficked” as their final project in the elondocs production program.
