Students advance to international round of moot court competition

Elon Law’s Media and International Law Moot Court Team, comprised of Ben Kempton L’14 and Craig Martin L’15, advanced to the quarterfinals in the Americas Round of the Price Media Law Moot Court Competition, held at Cardozo Law School in New York, N.Y. The Elon team’s performance in the Americas Round qualified them for the final International Round of the Price Moot, to be held in April at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.

In the Americas Round, Kempton and Martin competed against teams from Brazil, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and Peru, as well as several other domestic law schools. In the final International Round, Elon and the other Americas Round quarterfinalists will be competing against teams advancing from the Price Moot’s other qualifying regional rounds from around the world. This year’s Price Moot problem involves issues concerning online journalism, international treaty law, and law and technology.

The Elon team was the only advancing team with just two members arguing both the petitioner’s and respondent’s side of the moot court case; all the other teams had four or more members alternating argument rounds and sharing briefing duties. Elon Law Professor Enrique Armijo coached the team.  Kempton and Martin join a growing list of Elon Law moot court teams to earn recognition at intercollegiate competitions
