'The Common Word: Why Christians and Muslims Should be Friends' – April 9

A lecture by Adeel Zeb, Imam and Muslim Chaplain at Wesleyan University and Trinity College, is sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life

“Muslims and Christians together make up well over half of the world’s population. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities, there can be no meaningful peace in the world. The future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians. The basis for this peace and understanding already exists. It is part of the very foundational principles of both faiths: love of the One God, and love of the neighbor. These principles are found over and over again in the sacred texts of Islam and Christianity.”

These opening words from “A Common Word,” a letter from Muslim leaders to Christian leaders written in 2007, shine light on why Christians and Muslims should be friends and live and work together in harmony.

To further expand upon this theme and build bridges and dialogue at Elon, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life is hosting a lecture by Adeel Zeb, Imam and Muslim Chaplain at Wesleyan University and Trinity College, both in Connecticut, on Wednesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the McBride Gathering Space of the Numen Lumen Pavilion.
