Elon University senior Benjamin L. Bruni has been selected to participate in the 2014 Virginia Governor’s Fellows Program, a highly competitive and intense eight-week internship within the executive branch of Virginia’s state government.
Bruni is a political science and environmental studies double major from Richmond, Va.
Established in 1982, the fellowship program “offers a select group of outstanding and highly motivated individuals the opportunity to experience firsthand the administration of state government in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academics, proven leadership ability, and involvement in extracurricular activities and community service, according to the program’s website.
Bruni has served as president of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, as well as rush chairman and alumni relations officer. He also sat on the Interfraternity Council’s Honor Board.
No more than 15 fellows are named each summer. Fellows must attend a college or university in Virginia or be a resident of the commonwealth.
Bruni is the second Elon University student accepted into the program in the past three years. Cameron Scales ’11 was also involved in the Governor’s Fellows Program.
