Gender & LGBTQIA Center welcomes new summer intern

Russell Cornelius has been hired for the summer to expand knowledge, resources, and services offered by Elon University's Gender & LGBTQIA Center.

Elon University’s Gender & LGBTQIA Center welcomes Russell Cornelius as a summer 2014 program intern. Currently a graduate student at the University of Central Missouri, Cornelius is planning a career in higher education with a focus on LGBTQIA student life.

At his current institution, Cornelius serves as the LGBTQ graduate assistant. He leads efforts to increase the accessibility and creation of gender-inclusive restrooms, advances allyship across students and employees, and expands event programming for LGBTQI & Ally students.

At Elon he will focus his time on expanding the current offering of resources for the Gender & LGBTQIA Center. Another key responsibility will be to review Elon’s Institutional Strategic Plan for LGBTQIA Inclusion created by the Presidential LGBTQIA Task Force, as well as to lay foundational work from which to build upon throughout the 2014-2015 academic year.

Cornelius will be working in the Gender & LGBTQIA Center, located in Moseley 211, through the end of July 2014.
