Planning Week for faculty & staff begins August 18

Elon University employees should visit the Planning Week website for more information on ceremonies, workshops, meetings and a school supply drive that take place in the days leading up to the start of the 2014-15 academic year.

Planning Week 2014 begins Monday, August 18, with a morning reception around the Great Hall in the new Global Commons building followed by the annual awarding of Elon Medallions and an opening address by President Leo M. Lambert in Alumni Gym.

A campus-wide picnic will follow the president’s address.

Visit the Planning Week website for a complete schedule and details of the week, which features dozens of workshops, meetings and conversations that help orient new employees to campus while bringing together returning faculty and staff to coordinate and plan for the year ahead.

This marks the third year that the Elon University community plans to donate thousands of needed school supply items to children classified as homeless attending schools in the local Alamance County community. The initiative began in 2012 when James Black, a 2009 Elon alumnus serving in the armed forces in Afghanistan helped young children gain access to basic educational materials.

Once again, the Office of Student Health and Wellness, Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, the Student Government Association and Elon Volunteers! are asking for help in donating needed supplies for students in the Alamance Burlington School System. Our community partners at Alamance Burlington School System  (ABSS) anticipate that almost 800 students will be classified as homeless this year.

Bring book bags and supplies to the opening reception, president’s address and community picnic on Monday, August 18. Student leaders will collect items from 8-10 a.m. Collection boxes will also be  placed around campus until August 26.
