Elon University has partnered with LiveSafe to offer a free service for students, faculty and staff to share security concerns with Campus Safety & Police via text, photo and video.
A free app for both iPhone and Android users is now available as campus safety officials introduce a new way for Elon University students and employees to help safeguard their community.
The university partnered this spring with the mobile technology company LiveSafe to offer the app with two-way communication direct to Campus Safety & Police.
Students and employees can share information – anonymously, if they choose to – through text, photo or video directly from their smart phones. Vehicle accidents. Mental health crises. Suspicious activity. Campus Safety & Police officials can respond to reports and monitor real-time information from a Command Dashboard.
With a built-in SafeWalk feature, students also will be able to invite others to “virtually escort” them by monitoring their location on a map. SafeWalkers can simultaneously chat with one another to maintain constant contact.
Additionally, app users can receive important broadcast notifications sent by the Elon University Police Department.
“LiveSafe is a great communication tool that will help us better serve our community by creating closer connections,” said Elon University Police Chief Dennis Franks. “People are deeply connected to their smartphones, so providing them with a modern solution to share safety information made sense for our campus.”
Users who download the app will select Elon University from a list of schools and institutions that have partnered with LiveSafe. To fully function, the app requests that users keep location services turned on.
From March 30 through April 2, 2015, students can participate in a contest with prizes through the Elon LiveSafe app and its “Find the Phoenix” Scavenger Hunt Tip Feature. Take a picture of the Phoenix with your phone and submit a “Scavenger Hunt” tip with the picture to the Elon University Police Department through the LiveSafe App.
Prizes will include:
- Prime parking space in the McMichael Lot for Spring 2015
- An iPad Mini
- Two $100 Target Gift Cards
