Stephanie Dyck, a first-year student in Elon University’s Physician Assistant Studies graduate program, has been named a 2015 Paul Ambrose Scholar by the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research and the federal Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
As an Ambrose Scholar, Dyck will attend a June 2015 interprofessional Student Leadership Symposium in Washington, D.C., with 40 other health professions students from across the country with similar interests in prevention and population health.
She then will implement a community-based initiative focused on diabetes education at a local community organization, a project aligned with Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators.
According to the APTR website, since 2002, more than 550 students from over 200 academic institutions have been named Paul Ambrose Scholars. The program “seeks to meet the current and future health needs of the public by providing mini-grant funds to implement a Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators project within a student’s community or at their academic institution.”
