Welcoming the Class of 2019

New resources will make it easier for incoming students to move to campus on Aug. 21, 2015, when university faculty and staff greet the largest class in Elon history.

A record number of incoming first-year students will call Elon University home for the 2015-16 academic year with new opportunities this summer to make the move-in process easier for students and their families.

Led by the Office of Residence Life and the Office of New Student & Transition Programs, recent improvements to the move-in process include an early check-in date, staggered check-in times based on room and floor assignments, and an online guidebook for families to access directly on their smartphones.

“We hope that new students, transfer students and family members feel warmly welcomed to Elon’s campus,” said Katie Hight Burr ‘07, director of New Student & Transition Programs. “We aim to prepare students and families for the educational opportunities that Elon offers, inform them of important campus resources, and initiate relationships with peers and other members of the community.”

Many of the incoming students have been preparing to join the Elon community for months. Live video and web chats hosted throughout the summer have provided an opportunity to set academic expectations for incoming students, as well as provide an additional resource for logistical questions related to life on campus.

The video and web chats are an iniatiative of Are You Ready?, a summer-long program the university supports to address topics related to the first year of college.

Students also had the opportunity to engage in one of six First-Year Summer Experiences. These weeklong programs pair hands-on learning with core Elon values of leadership and service in off-campus environments.

Full details on move-in, campus resources, academic offerings and more can be found on the Are You Ready? website and the New Student & Transition Programs website. Highlights of those sites include:

Arrival Time for New Students

Check-in times on Move-In Day are now by a student’s floor assignment. Students on the third and fourth floors of a residence hall will check in at 8 a.m.; those on the second floor at 9:30 a.m.; first-floor residents gain access to their rooms at 11 a.m. Click here for a map of routes to use to get to your residence hall.
