Elon students participate in national Beta Alpha Psi meeting

Four members of Elon’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter represented Elon in August at the national organization’s annual meeting in Milwaukee.

Beta Alpha Psi members Ryan Herring ’16 (president), Jake Orr ’16 (treasurer), Caleb Newcomb ’16 (special events chair) and Jonathon Cox ’17 (associate member) participated in the Beta Alpha Psi annual meeting held Aug. 5-7, in Milwaukee. Patty Cox, faculty advisor for Beta Alpha Psi and assistant professor of accounting, accompanied the group.

Herring participated in Project Run With It, a competition where students from schools across the country are placed into groups of four to come up with a solution to a real nonprofit issue in the Milwaukee area.

Orr, Newcomb and Cox presented the concurrent session “Innovative Recruiting of New Members” to an audience of about 150 students and professors.

The annual meeting included a service aspect as well. Students participated in Community Service Day, which involved visiting local Milwaukee schools in honor of Financial Literacy Day.

During the meeting, the Elon chapter was recognized as a “superior” chapter. This is the eighth consecutive year the chapter has achieved this status.

Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals. Founded in 1919, the organization’s primary objective is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.
