Elon Mock Trial hosts 9th Annual Carolina Classic Invitational Tournament

Elon Mock Trial kicked off the invitational season with a tournament hosted on campus over fall break.

The Elon Mock Trial Team welcomed 20 mock trial teams from 15 different schools to campus this past weekend for the 9th Annual Carolina Classic Invitation Tournament (CCIT). Elon University Mock Trial, Elon University Political Science Department and Elon University School of Law sponsored the tournament. Teams traveled from school across the country including Pennsylvania State University, Ohio State University, University of Richmond and Washington and Lee University.

Teams competed in four rounds that took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each mock trial team in the country received the same case from the American Mock Trial Association in August, and last weekend teams performed every part of the trial in each round. Local legal community members, coaches and former members of the Elon Mock Trial Team volunteered to judge each round.

Seniors David Comerford and Christopher Holden; Juniors Alaina Schukraft and Gabriel Corbett; and Sophomores Victoria Phillips, Christian Reese, Sarah Vates and William Wetter represented Elon University in competition. Seniors John Gavin and Lindsey Tipps served as student tournament directors.
