Student to attend RADA spring program, in final round of scholarship contest

Beau Scheier '17 has been accepted to study Shakespeare at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art during the spring of 2016. He is in the top two students competing for a scholarship from gotchosen.com.

Elon University junior Beau Scheier will spend his 2016 spring semester at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the alma mater of such actors as Peter O’Toole, Ralph Fiennes, Kenneth Brannaugh and Alan Rickman.

“I feel extremely honored to be spending this amount of time at such a prestigious program,” said Scheier, an acting major from North Carolina. “I cannot wait to immerse myself in the program, and bring what I learn back to Elon.”

The program has an undisclosed number of applicants, and accepts only 16 students to travel to London and study at RADA. The Hollywood Reporter has listed The Royal Academy of Dramatic arts as the fifth best drama school in the world, following NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Juliard and Yale.

Scheier has had an active role in Elon’s theater productions, having recently finished a well-received run of “Harper Regan,” Elon’s mainstage straight play of the fall semester. To help fund his training, Scheier is in the running for a scholarship on gotchosen.com. The scholarship requires supporters to register for an account on the website, verify their email, and then upvote his post on the site

“It takes all of 30 seconds, and could really help me pursue my studies in London,” Scheier said. “They’ve never sent me any spam email either. All things considered, I just hope the Elon community can help me get in the lead. They’ve already been a huge force; it’s been truly uplifting. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.”
