Professor of Music Thomas Erdmann had a 6,000-word article and a CD review published in the January 2016 issue of the The International Trumpet Guild Journal.

The article is on West Coast collegiate teacher and studio trumpeter Barry Perkins. With regard to his studio work, Perkins can be heard on a large number of movie soundtracks including The Amazing Spiderman 2, Big Hero 6, Blended, Fantastic Four, GI Joe 2, Godzilla, Lone Ranger, Men In Black 3, Monsters University, Pacific Rim, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Minions, Pixels, Star Wars Episode 7, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and White House Down, to list just a few.

As a symphony trumpeter for the last 11 years he has held the position of Principal Trumpet with the Pacific Symphony. His professional symphonic career began when at the age of 20 when he won the position of Associate Principal Trumpet in the Mexico City Philharmonic. Other symphonic work has included performing with the State of Mexico Orchestra, Mineria Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, San Diego Opera, and being a member of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. He also served as first-call substitute Principal Trumpet with the San Diego Symphony, and as the Interim 3rd Trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to again list just a few. As a soloist Perkins has appeared with the Aguascalientes Symphony, Southeast Symphony, San Diego Winds and the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.

As a teacher Perkins is on the faculty at Cal State Fullerton, teaches privately, and is the founder of the Barry Perkins Trumpet Academy, a summer music trumpet camp. His jazz/pop/classical/Latin ensemble, The Barry Perkins Collective, is one of the most eclectic groups working today.

The CD review is of John Dover’s Working Out The Kinks.
