Elon University’s inaugural On-Campus Employment Fair brought more than 100 students to Moseley Center on Tuesday afternoon to research work opportunities with several campus and community programs, offices and departments.

McKinnon Hall was full of campus employers seeking prospective student employees.

“Three or four years ago, we didn’t have an organized way of promoting jobs to students,” said Rene Jackson, Elon’s career advisor for graduate school programs and director of the PACE Program. “This fair creates a new opportunity for students and for their employers to be more aware of each other.

“We have so many students that want to work on campus. Some people are actually hiring students now, and others will be hiring students later in the semester.”

Students said they are thinking ahead to the challenges of starting a career and know that they will need professional experience to compete with other college graduates. Eighteen offices and programs were represented at the Student Professional Development Center-sponsored event on Feb. 23, 2016.

“I was like ‘I’ll print out 10 copies of my resume’ so I could have the full job application experience,” said Elon freshman Eric Johnson, who attended the afternoon program.
