Elon Celebrates Body Image Positivity with 'Love Your Body Week'

Elon Campus Recreation, SPARKS, Active Minds, and Delta Delta Delta collaborated to bring a positive outlook on National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW). Events occurred throughout the week of February 22-26 in Campus Recreation facilities, as well as student gathering spaces.

Beginning on Monday, the Koury Fitness Center hallways were filled with body positive posters. Students were asked to write something they love about their bodies and hang it on the display throughout the facility. On Tuesday, Emma Schumacher and other experienced trainers led female students through a series of weight lifting stations at an event called “Ladies Learning Lifting Night.” The fitness center was closed to all patrons except those in attendance. Wednesday consisted of free massages and smoothies, provided by Aramark. Campus Dining also sponsored a “fueling your body” class presented by dietitian Amanda Cerra. This was accompanied by cooking instruction in the Moseley kitchen on Thursday. Friday marked record-breaking attendance at Campus Recreation’s annual Zumbathon. Two hundred and thirty students danced for one hour in Jordan Gym to successfully conclude Love Your Body Week.

The organizations involved and the students who participated are satisfied with the results and are looking forward to making this an annual celebration. For more information about Love Your Body Week, please contact Catherine van Eyck at cvaneyck2@elon.edu.

Students participating in Zumabthon hold up a heart to support 'Love Your Body Week' and National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
