Men's fishing club doesn’t let rain ruin tournament

Students place first, second and third in men’s club fishing tournament.

The bass fishing team departed to Cane Creek at 6 a.m. and as they prepared their boats, it began to sprinkle lightly. About 10 minutes after launch, the downpour began and lasted for four hours. Luckily, the fish were biting.

Eric Goodnow and Kyle ‘Bass Slayer’ Ottaway hooked some baby back bass, while Ethan Massey and Kellen Sorensen threw the senkos as if their lives depended on it.

The dark horse team, Jack Faccibene and Spencer Howard, who had never fished Cane Creek before, were prepared, throwing purple worms and hooking the king fish of the tournament, a six- pound lunker.

By noon the wind had picked up and the rain had ceased, causing the bite to slow. Massey had one last chance to take Faccibene and Howard down, pulling a four-pound fish up to the side of the boat that suddenly spat the bait back at him. Devastated, Massey vowed never to lose a fish like that again. The team celebrated at Zaxby’s with chicken tenders.

The results:

First place: Jack Faccibene and  Spencer Howard
Second place: Kellen Sorensen and Ethan Massey

Third place: Eric Goodnow and Kyle “Bass Slayer” Ottaway
