Music Theatre students pay it forward, perform "Collage" for Twin Lakes Retirement Community

On Sept. 30, the Elon music theatre program performed "Collage," a one-hour showcase featuring show-stopping numbers, at the Twin Lakes Retirement Community.

On Friday, Sept. 30, the entire music theatre program gathered to present a show for members of the Twin Lakes Retirement Community.

Elon music theatre majors presented “Collage,” an hour-long show with numbers from shows like “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Violet,” “Sister Act,” and “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” The show was faculty-guided, but all of the musical numbers were staged, choreographed, music directed and arranged by music theatre students.

Several residents from the retirement community expressed their gratitude toward the music theatre program. One resident expressed her happiness and thankfulness that the music theatre majors “brought the outside world to her.”

Senior music theatre major JJ Niemann said, “It felt great to pay it forward and perform for people who wouldn’t necessarily have been able to make it over to Elon’s campus to see our shows. The reason that we perform is to share joy and light to people and to tell stories. This weekend we got to do just that, and it was so wonderful and refreshing.”
