Portion of North Williamson Avenue to close Nov. 21-23 for construction work

The closure will allow for a water line to be extended across the roadway to serve the Schar Center.

Elon University will close a portion of North Williamson Avenue in Elon between East Haggard Avenue and University Drive to through traffic for several days this month for work that will extend a water line across the road as part of the construction of the Schar Center.

Weather permitting, the section of the road from the northern-most entrance to the Hunt Softball Park parking lot to Phoenix Drive will close at 6 a.m. on Nov. 21 and is expected to reopen by 5 p.m. on Nov. 23 once the work is completed. The road closure has been scheduled to coincide with the university’s Thanksgiving holiday break to minimize the disruption to travelers and community and campus activities.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured along West Haggard and Manning avenues — see included map for the detour route. Local traffic will be able to access homes, businesses and university facilities between East Haggard Avenue and the northern-most entrance to Hunt Softball Park, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either end of the area where the work is being performed.

The Town of Elon, Elon University and the N.C. Department of Transportation remind motorists to watch signs for closure information, stay alert when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit and allow extra time to reach your destination.
