Events to celebrate the life of the late President Emeritus J. Earl Danieley

Dr. Danieley, who died Tuesday at the age of 92, will be honored in multiple ways during events on Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3.   

Those touched by the life of the late President Emeritus J. Earl Danieley will come together on Friday and Saturday to pay their respects and celebrate his life and their memories of him during multiple events on Elon’s campus.

Danieley, who led the university for 16 years as president and served as a professor, administrator, cheerleader and fundraiser, passed away Nov. 29 at the age of 92.

Today from noon until 8 p.m., Dr. Danieley’s body will lie in state in the Numen Lumen Pavilion in Elon’s Academic Village at 301 East Haggard Ave. Members of the campus community are invited to stop by the building’s Sacred Space for a moment of prayer and to pay their respects throughout the afternoon. Dr. Danieley’s family will host a visitation and receive condolences from the community in the Sacred Space from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Parking will be available in the McMichael Center parking lot north of Haggard Avenue. Parking will also be available at the Elon Community Church parking lot, which will be serviced by shuttle bus transportation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Following a morning funeral service at the Elon Community Church for Dr. Danieley’s family and church members on Saturday, Dec. 3, the entire Elon community is invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium of the Koury Center. The ceremony will include music, scripture readings and remembrances from those Danieley touched during his more than 70 years as a member of the Elon University family. 

A video webcast of the service for members of the Elon family who are unable to travel to campus will be live once the service is underway. The service will also be broadcast via Facebook Live on the Elon University Facebook page

Following the service, there will be a special College Coffee reception in the Moseley Center. Dr. Danieley’s family will attend the reception and receive condolences.
