Elon students, state leaders discuss North Carolina’s global engagement

The students reviewed data patterns and trends presented in the N.C. Global Engagement Snapshot at a recent N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness meeting.

Six Elon University students participated in a N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness meeting to discuss the data presented in the N.C. Global Engagement Snapshot, an online tool to benchmark and coordinate efforts to maximize North Carolina’s global success.

The Nov. 17 meeting, led by former N.C. Secretary of Commerce Jim Fain, reviewed how to improve global competitiveness for North Carolina. State and business leaders completed a data walk through how the snapshot can help the N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness in its efforts to make the state more globally engaged.

Maria Hadaya, Rachyl Jackson, Kyle Jankowski, Sydney Lawton, Alice Pittman and Alexandra Slota reviewed data patterns and trends shown in the snapshot, which was released on Oct. 11 after a year-long data collection and analysis effort by Go Global NC, Elon University and RTI International. A team of student interns from Elon’s Center for Organizational Analytics helped visualize more than 60 global indicators for the snapshot’s online dashboard.

“The Center for Organizational Analytics is proud to partner with Go Global NC and the N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness to support North Carolina be more intentional and strategic about global engagement,” said center director Haya Ajjan.

The N.C. Global Engagement Snapshot aims to develop leadership that supports global engagement, increase the world’s awareness of what the state has to offer, develop an infrastructure that supports international partnerships, and ensure citizens are prepared to succeed in a global community.

According to Go Global NC, a program of the UNC General Administration that coordinates the N.C. Coalition for Global Competitiveness, the minimum estimated audience/circulation for the snapshot is 1,622,720.

The Center for Organizational Analytics interns are currently working on the snapshot’s 2017 publication.
