Elon Presidential Search update – Feb. 21, 2017

Presidential Search Committee chair Wes Elingburg provides an update on the search process to the Elon community.

February 21, 2017

Dear members of the Elon community,

Thank you for joining the Board of Trustees in expressing deep appreciation to President Lambert and his family following last week’s announcement of his plans to conclude his presidency. As the Board of Trustees’ Presidential Search Committee is being formed and preparing to begin its work, I want to provide you with an update about ways you can assist in the search for Elon’s ninth president.

Recommend students, faculty and staff to serve on the Presidential Search Committee
As we announced last week, the Search Committee will conduct the presidential search and make a recommendation to the full Board, which will appoint the next president. The 15-member Search Committee will consist of eight trustees, three faculty members, two students, one staff member and one senior staff member. A number of suggestions for the non-trustee membership of the committee have already been submitted to the presidentialsearch@elon.edu email account. Please submit all suggestions by 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 24.

Upcoming survey to gather community input
Input from the entire Elon community is essential at this stage of the search. We want to learn your thoughts about the university’s priorities and the qualities, skills and experiences you will be looking for in the next president. Next week, students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and friends of the university will receive an email survey seeking input. Please take a few minutes to complete the confidential survey when you receive it.

Mid-March forums to gather community input
Look for an email soon about campus forums on the presidential search. Consultants from the executive search firm, Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, will visit campus March 14-15 to conduct an important pre-search study. They will be seeking thoughts from all constituents about Elon’s future and our community’s expectations for the next president.

After gathering information from the campus, the consulting team in conjunction with the Search Committee will create the search prospectus, an important document that will describe the University, as well as the leadership agenda for the next president.

Thank you for your support and participation in the search process. Please feel free to contact me at presidentialsearch@elon.edu with any questions related to the presidential search. You can also read more about the search on the search website: http://www.elon.edu/presidentialsearch

Sincerely,

Wes Elingburg, P’11
