Students from Puerto Rico collecting donations for hurricane relief

Monetary donations collected will be used by relief organizations to direct support to where the need is the greatest. Stop by the Moseley Center between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday to make a donation.

A group of Elon students from Puerto Rico working to support hurricane victims on the island collected donations for relief organizations on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Moseley Center.

The students are part of the national effort Students with Puerto Rico, which has so far raised more than $160,000 through a GoFundMe initiative. As with most crises of this nature, the most effective way to assist in the short term is by offering monetary donations that can be used by relief organizations to direct support to where it is needed the most.

To supplement Wednesday’s effort, donations can also be made through Venmo to @ElonwithPuertoRico.

Donations can also be made directly to the government of Puerto Rico through the website Unidos por Puerto Rico – http://unidosporpuertorico.com/en/

Those wishing to support other relief organizations that are part of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) can find a list of agencies involved in relief and recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria here – https://www.nvoad.org/voad-members/national-members/.
