Fifty-five educators participated in a two-day Inclusive Schools Network Institute run by the organization Gender Spectrum and hosted by the Elon University School of Education
Teams of educators from 11 North Carolina public school districts converged upon campus Nov. 13-14 to take part in a professional development opportunity facilitated by Gender Spectrum.
The Gender Spectrum Inclusive Schools Network (ISN) is a learning community of educational professionals committed to creating school settings where every child’s gender is seen, understood, and respected. This year-long program of professional development begins with an Inclusive Schools Institute, comprised of a cohort of educators in a region. Joel Baum and Lisa Kenney of Gender Spectrum led the institute. The institute is followed by a comprehensive set of activities that deepen network members’ confidence and capacity as they pursue greater gender inclusiveness for all students in their own schools.
Elon University's School of Education hosted the ISN Institute. Educators from the following school systems participated in the training: Alamance-Burlington School System, Caldwell County Schools, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School System, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Durham Public Schools, Edgecombe County Public Schools, Guilford County Schools, Orange County Schools, Randolph County Schools, Union County Public Schools, Wake County Public School System
