Mark S. Jetton Jr. '06 L'09, a Charlotte criminal defense and personal injury attorney, is the first Elon University and Elon Law alumnus selected to the board of judges, lawyers and business leaders who advise the university about the law school’s strategic growth.
A double graduate of Elon University who quickly developed a reputation as one of Charlotte’s top attorneys has joined the Elon University School of Law Board of Advisors.
Mark S. Jetton Jr. ‘06 L’09, a founding partner of Jetton & Meredith, PLLC, will work with other prominent North Carolina jurists, attorneys and business leaders to help steer the direction of Elon Law as the school begins work on a strategic plan to guide its growth through the early part of the next decade.
Jetton described the invitation to join the Board of Advisors as “one of the greatest honors ever offered to me.”
“I hope to bring to the board some ‘boots on the ground’ experience,” he said. “Owning my own firm, and handling everything from litigating in court to managing employees to ensuring my clients receive superior legal services, allows me to contribute an additional perspective to a board of distinguished attorneys who all started their legal careers years before me.
“I also am excited about the improvements Elon Law continues to make with its innovative curriculum, its residency program, and its unique study abroad programs. I can’t say enough how thankful and honored I am for this university, law school, and board believing in me and giving me this opportunity to contribute to its ongoing success.”
Jetton played football for Clemson University before transferring to Elon University where he continued to excel on and off the field with the Phoenix. After graduating in 2006, Jetton enrolled in the charter class of Elon Law, earning his juris doctor in 2009. He partnered with Elon Law classmate Eric Meredith L’09 to found Jetton & Meredith, PLLC, soon after.

Jetton said his grandfather, Charles Eugene Jetton, helped cover the expense of his legal education at Elon Law a decade ago. Charles Eugene Jetton died earlier this year, and Mark Jetton credits the opportunity to serve on the Board of Advisors to his grandfather’s unwavering support of his professional growth. Jetton added that serving as an advisory board member honors his grandfather.
The Elon Law Board of Advisors convenes in Greensboro twice each year and is chaired by David Gergen, who served as director of communications for President Reagan and held positions in the administrations of Presidents Nixon, Ford and Clinton.
