Assistant Professor of Anthropology Jennifer Carroll has lent her expertise to a new book titled, "A Public Health Guide to Ending the Opioid Crisis," which will be released from Oxford University Press in October.
Carroll's chapter, co-authored with her former colleagues at the CDC Rita K. Noonan and Jessica Wolff, highlights the many challenges that arise when public health and public safety professionals attempt to collaborate. Drawing from her experience working as a public health consultant for the Atlanta/Carolinas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, Carroll offers readers practical tips for spanning language gaps, avoiding mission drift, and ensuring that the professional and ethical values of all players at the table are respected.
Carroll was invited by the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) to offer the same guidance to NACCHO Annual Meeting attendees in July.
