Elon families making home feel more like campus for students

As students prepare to continue the semester online for the two weeks following Spring Break, Elon parents are welcoming them home to a campus away from campus.

With COVID-19 prompting changes to daily life on campus, some students are getting an extension of the Elon experience at home.

Following this week’s Spring Break, students are encouraged to stay home as Elon transitions to online learning from March 23 to April 5.

Parents throughout the Elon community are doing what they can to make the transition as seamless as possible for their students. Jennifer Bruns P’23 welcomed her son Noah Bruns ’23 to Elon’s “Midwest Campus,” which happens to be located at their home in Illinois.

Bruns detailed the new accommodations in a recent tweet:

Bruns posted images of a living room converted into a “common room,” a dining room turned into a “dining hall,” and a sign pointing to upstairs “dorm rooms.”

The tweet was featured in stories by WCNC, WBTV, WFMY, WNCN and other media outlets.

“We’ve got to laugh a little bit,” Bruns told WCNC. “There has to be stuff to laugh about.”

Parents in other states are also making their homes feel more like campus. A commenter, @jillb_b, responded to Bruns’ tweet with some new accommodations for her student, who is returning home to Massachusetts to continue this semester’s coursework:
