Business Fellows network & learn in the Big Apple

Students accompanied their faculty and staff mentors on an April visit to New York City where they met Elon University alumni working for some of the leading companies in finance, technology, and retail.

Fourteen Business Fellows with career interests in marketing and finance traveled to New York City this spring for a series of company visits hosted by Elon University graduates building successful careers with those firms.

Elon University Business Fellows accompanied faculty and staff to New York City from April 18-20, 2023, for visits to various companies.

The Fellows were joined by Professor Tina Das, Professor Raj Gupta, and Brooke Buffington, director of the Student Professional Development Center, during the April 18-20 program.

During their visits, Fellows completed office tours, attended presentations, and spoke with company representatives on topics that included networking, pursuing career paths, preparing for the job market, and the transition from college to corporate environments.

“The Business Fellows trip to New York City was a wonderful opportunity to network with alumni who are both extremely successful in their fields and living fulfilling lives,” said Alex Cope ’24. “I loved getting an inside look at companies ranging from a relatively young startup to firms like Google and Salesforce. This trip got me thinking about how I want to shape my future after Elon, and had me looking forward to my post-graduate career in a whole new way.

“I am so thankful for the strong foundation I’ve built at Elon and feel prepared and excited to enter the working world next year, maybe even at one of the incredible companies we visited.”

The itinerary for Business Fellows included a visit to CIBC.

“The Fellows trip to New York City presented itself as both an incredible networking opportunity and a way to experience the day-to-day lives of several amazing Elon alumni who were all highly accomplished, experienced, and above all, eager to help us,” said Nick Morello ‘24. “I’m taking away from this trip a better understanding of life after Elon, tips for being a high performing intern and employee, and numerous connections that will certainly help me in my future endeavors.”

One of Morello’s peers also described the opportunity to hear from professionals in the finance industry as “truly an experience of a lifetime.”

”Not only did we learn about the companies they worked for, but we were also able to ask questions that helped us understand how to succeed in the professional world,” said Jeremy Lazoff ‘24. “We met with numerous alumni and it was amazing to hear how their academic engagement and professional development at Elon University helped them become the successful people they are today.”
