Morgan Ferguson ’19, an Elon alumna and senior data scientist at The Walt Disney Company, will return to campus on Monday, Feb. 12, to talk about the many ways Disney collects and uses data.

This event is part of the Data Nexus Speaker Series: The Power of Women in Data. Leaders within the Data Nexus initiative encourage all to come and discover data in their daily lives.

  • When: Monday, Feb. 12, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: LaRose Student Commons, Room 200
  • The first 50 attendees who register in advance will receive a special Disney prize.

Data Nexus is Elon’s Quality Enhancement Plan, or QEP for short, which is a university-wide plan for improving student learning over five years. It is a part of the accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), which is committed to advancing the quality of higher education. Institutions accredited by SACSCOC are required to determine the student learning needs and develop a QEP to improve student learning.

Elon’s overarching goal for its 2023-28 Data Nexus QEP is to enhance student learning of the knowledge and skills required for working with data during and after their college experience. Because data encountered varies by field or discipline and because the specific tools, theories and models used to analyze and interpret data are often context-specific, we have defined “data competency” broadly, while building a plan that will provide support for learning opportunities in specific data-driven curricular and co-curricular academic experiences.
