The Burlington train station provides an efficient and cost-effective way for students, faculty and staff to travel beyond Alamance County and for students to travel home for breaks.
Just five miles from Elon’s campus, Amtrak’s Burlington Station offers students, faculty and staff a quick and sustainable way to travel beyond Alamance County. Taking the train is an efficient way for students, faculty and staff to commute to and from Elon’s campus, and a cost-effective way for students to travel home during breaks.
Additionally, riding the train can be a great way to build community. Morgan Patrick, assistant professor of music theory at Elon, takes the train to commute to work twice a week. Patrick takes the train to Burlington and then bikes on the Greenway to get to Elon.
He noted he sometimes sees Elon students riding the train to Durham and Raleigh, and that every once in a while, the train will stop for special events like the North Carolina State Fair, football games or educational events. College students are eligible for discounts when they ride the train. Above merely commuting, Patrick emphasized the strong community that he has become a part of because of riding the train.
“You meet such wonderful people, both commuters and also people that work on the trains,” said Patrick.
This year, Moseley is offering a free shuttle service during fall break to the Burlington train station, available on Oct. 15 and 16, as well as a return shuttle on Oct. 19. Students must sign up by Oct. 5.
