Elon University and community to honor legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A community celebration and blood drive will honor the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Elon University and the surrounding community will honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the week of Jan. 19, the national holiday named in his honor.

On Jan. 8, the university held the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Lecture with Scholar and ethicist Kwame Anthony Appiah, who offered a look at the civil rights leader’s life examining “the ultimate moral truth about the man in the pulpit.”

Upcoming Events

MLK Celebration 
Monday, Jan. 19, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Mayco Bigelow Center

The life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King will be honored with a cultural show at Mayco Bigelow. Performers, poets, giveaways, etc. for one hour, open to the public. Volunteer duties include greeting guests, folding programs, taking pictures, handing out water/hot chocolate or performing.

Winter Blood Drive
Wednesday, Jan. 21, 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Alumni Gym

Volunteer at the upcoming blood drive in Alumni Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 21.  Volunteers who work the registration table will check in donors and have them complete any registration materials before being able to donate.  f there are any questions, please contact amoffa@elon.edu.

Two volunteers are needed for each time slot.  If one individual has registered, click next to their name and you should still be able to reserve that same slot.
