Israel Balderas, assistant professor of journalism, was interviewed by WGHP FOX 8 about the U.S. Senate race in North Carolina.

Assistant Professor of Journalism Israel Balderas was recently interviewed by WGHP FOX 8, the FOX television affiliate in High Point, North Carolina, about the upcoming U.S. Senate race.
Former North Carolina Democratic Governor Roy Cooper announced he is entering the race. According to FOX 8, some see Cooper has “invincible” as he has won all six of the statewide elections he’s run in North Carolina. But Balderas says don’t count out his potential opponent: Republican Michael Whatley.
“Remember, Michael Whatley was the chair of the RNC. He was successful at raising money for Trump’s bid in 2024. He was also chair of NCGOP,” Balderas said. “The Republican Party has been strong here in North Carolina. If there is someone who can raise money, both at the state level and the national level, it’s going to be Michael Whatley. But the Democrats are going to give whatever money Roy Cooper needs to win this race.”
