Elon University to hold Campus Sustainability Week Oct 6-10

Campus Sustainability Week offers sustainable events for students, faculty and staff to attend while providing a space for members of the Elon community to celebrate Elon's current sustainability practices.

Elon University’s Office of Sustainability will hold Campus Sustainability Week from Oct. 6-10.

Campus Sustainability Week provides an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to attend a variety of sustainable events and examine their own sustainable practices while learning about Elon’s commitment to sustainability.

Huria Tahiry, Environmental Justice Intern for the Office of Sustainability, has attended several Campus Sustainability Week events during her time at Elon.

“I’d recommend students take advantage of the variety of events during Campus Sustainability Week, especially the keynote sessions,” said Tahiry. “It’s also a great idea to explore programs hosted by the Office of Sustainability throughout the year,” Tahiry says.

Additionally, there are several engaging events offered on campus, held in collaboration with organizations including the Yoga Club, Elon Outdoors and Elon Dining.

Huria has previously participated in “Bike to Burlington” and “Smore’s with Outdoors” events, along with the keynote speaker events.

“All of the events are impactful in their own way. However, I especially enjoyed the keynote speakers, as they provided meaningful perspectives and inspired me to think differently about sustainability,” she said.

Academic, author and activist Jessica Yinka Thomas, will deliver the keynote address “The Rise of B Corps and Business as a Force for Good” on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in McKinnon Hall.

Individuals who attend the most Campus Sustainability Week events will be awarded prizes, ranging from $25 Phoenix Cash to a hammock! One set of faculty/staff members and one set of students will be chosen as the winners at the end of the week.
