The national switch to digital television broadcasting on Friday spurred hundreds of calls to a phone bank at Elon University, where students and staff from the Federal Communications Commission assisted North Carolina viewers with complaints of lost TV signals or requests for analog-to-digital converter box coupons.

Holland House migrates across campus

It took two weeks of preparation and two days to move, but by the end of the day Sunday, a 4,000-square-foot brick home that once served as the official residence of Elon’s president will have moved nearly half a mile, over railroad tracks, to its new home on South Campus.
Welcome ceremony kicks off Elon Academy

A June 14 ceremony in Whitley Auditorium served as the official welcome to Alamance County high school students taking part in the Elon Academy, a year round college enrichment program that brings teenagers to campus for a month each summer for an immersion experience in a university setting.
Education and psychology faculty, alumni present research on service-learning

Three Elon University faculty members and two recent graduates presented research papers June 11 to the 5th Annual Symposium on Service Learning and Civic Engagement at Western Carolina University. Their focus was the use of academic service-learning to challenge the stereotypical views often held by teacher candidates about students and families living in poverty.
Public access to Belk Library limited for interior work

The first floor of Belk Library is getting new carpeting starting June 29. The library will remain open during this period, but the front doors will be locked to walk-in traffic. Instead, Elon students, faculty, and staff should use their Phoenix Cards in the card swipe reader to the right of the front doors for access. Computers will be available on the second floor, and library staff will circulate materials as usual. The project is expected to take two to three weeks to complete. All information will be posted on the front doors with a phone number for those needing help. Belk Library will not be open to visitors and community users except in unusual circumstances. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to use the library as they normally would but must have their Phoenix Card to gain access.

A historic Elon University building will be lifted from its original location this weekend and moved nearly half a mile, across railroad tracks, to make room for a plaza to be constructed at the front of the Academic Village area on campus.

When Robert Hoppey '09 saw a tough job market in the year leading up to his graduation, he built a "souped-up multimedia resume" that included a video spoof of "The Office" television program to show potential employers his creative side. CBS Evening News took note, too, and Hoppey was featured in a June 8 nationwide segment on the ways college graduates are marketing themselves in an economic recession.
