The long-time staff member and Elon Medallion recipient passed away at the age of 98.

Faculty members Israel Balderas, Amanda Sturgill and Shannon Zenner were recognized with awards at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s 2022 national convention.

The journalism major traveled to Las Vegas with classmate Naomi Washington ’24 and Associate Professor Rich Landesberg to attend the popular conference for Black and Hispanic journalists and news industry professionals.

Among those visiting Elon will be actress and activist Ashley Judd, CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, Pulitzer Prize finalist and author Tommy Orange and author and neuroscientist Wendy Suzuki.

A passionate and successful writer, Payne credits her time at Elon and the Black Alumni Scholarship for helping her achieve greatness.

Lovitz starred for the Elon men’s soccer program from 2010 to 2013, helping the Phoenix to four conference championships including three straight tournament titles.

Elon alumni Scott McCrary ’00, Nicholas Kurtz ’14 and Emily Harrison '18 were among the other honorees recognized at the 64th National Capital Chesapeake Bay Emmy Awards ceremony held June 25.
