Film distributor Reframe recently picked up Communications instructor Nicole Triche’s short film "Metacarpus."

The Department of Leisure and Sport Management welcomed home one of its own Friday as faculty, students and guests gathered in Holland House for Johnathan Harvey ’09, who returned to North Carolina last month from a four-month deployment to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In the weeks following the Sept. 11 attacks, many U.S. media outlets abandoned their “watchdog” roles in favor of patriotic cheerleading, the consequences of which are still being felt. Those effects and more are examined in “Terrorism and the Press: An Uneasy Relationship,” a new book co-authored by associate professor Brooke Barnett.

The products of student research and documentary broadcast work at the 2007 Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, have reaped many rewards over recent weeks.

Four School of Communications alumni spoke to a packed room of students and professors Monday afternoon, detailing their experience in the field of communications and their internships that helped them lead them to their current careers.

Ken Calhoun, assistant professor of Communications, won the Broadcast Education Association Award for Excellence for a screenplay based on a short story he wrote called “Noise Gate.”
