About 25 students gathered Jan. 12 for training in preparation for this week's digital television transition test in North Carolina. The Elon students will staff the statewide hotline phone bank which will be headquartered in the TV studio at Elon's School of Communications.

During World War Two, many captured German soldiers were transferred overseas to prison camps in the United States. After discovering an unlikely connection to one of these POWs, Tom Nelson, an associate professor of communications, began work on "Prisoners of Plenty," a documentary that tells the Germans' stories due out this year.

Several videos produced by Elon students and staff are now available to about 1.2 million subscribers to Time Warner Cable systems in North and South Carolina.

Jessica Gisclair, an associate professor in the School of Communications, published a paper titled “The Dissonance between Culture and Intellectual Property in China” in the Southeast Review of Asian Studies.

Lambda Pi Eta, the School of Communications Honor Society, will hold its induction ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 in McKinnon Hall in the Moseley Center.

School of Communications broadcast students helped Elon to an eighth-place ranking in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program Intercollegiate Broadcast Competition. It’s the first time Elon has been a top-10 school overall.

Eight Elon School of Communications students met on campus with veteran CBS News “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl on Jan. 6, gaining her insights about journalism and her advice about starting their careers.

Assistant professor Rich Landesberg will help lead a study abroad trip to Europe to study the past, present and future of the European Union during January. He will be maintaining a blog while traveling, which can be accessed at http://eloneu09.wordpress.com/.
