Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 with events planned throughout.

The university has a variety of events and programs planned during Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

The nationwide initiative aims to promote communication and healing between police and people of color in the United States. The Tuesday, Sept. 17, event will include an on-campus screening of the award-winning film “Walking While Black” and a panel discussion with Alamance County community members and law enforcement leaders.

DEEP is the Center for Race, Ethnicity & Diversity Education’s (CREDE) signature program for social justice. We provide spaces for the Elon community to learn about, reflect on, and apply concepts of social justice with a foundation in racial equity. Together, we hope to achieve a greater understanding of identities, power, and their relation to systemic inequities.

High Point University professor Amanda Mbuvi will present on issues of race, religion, nationality, family, and identity

Tyrone Jean and Cherrel Miller Dyce made presentations at the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity held May 28 through June 1 in Portland, Oregon.

The four-part series kicked off with 75 faculty and staff attending a session on the construction of racial history and institutional memory.

Sixty-seven students were honored during the May 23 cultural ceremony that celebrates the achievements of black students who recognize their African heritage.

The second annual Gala Latina celebrated the successes and achievements of members of Elon’s Latinx/Hispanic community.

 

In April, the Center for Race, Ethnicity & Diversity Education (CREDE) commemorates the achievements and contributions of people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent in the United States.
