Randy Piland has been active in the Boy Scouts since he was 11 years old. He's an Eagle Scout and has always enjoyed being a part of the Boy Scouts of America, so he continually looks for ways to give back to an organization that gave him so much. Piland used this summer to design completely a Flash-based Web site companion to the 12th edition of the "Boy Scout Handbook."

Three new faculty and staff members with strong and varied professional and educational backgrounds joined the ranks of the Interactive Media master's program in the Fall of 2009.

Associate professor Jessica Gisclair was named the School of Communications' new associate department chair this summer to help accommodate the increasing number of faculty and students in the school.

The new facilities that will serve as the headquarters for Elon's new interactive media master's program provide sophisticated computer technology and a comfortable environment for the 37 graduate students.

Paul Wagner finds niches. He's built a career on identifying a target audience and giving it the products it wants. He's a savvy businessman, who's worked as a greeting card writer, product developer and, out of necessity, a storyteller because in the business world, he says, you have to spin a tale if you're going to sell a product.

Alex Kreitman, a 2006 Elon alumnus and current student in the Interactive Media master's program, wrote a column about returning to school in the July 27 edition of the Burlington Times-News.

Linda Misiura was trained formally as a writer, but the design/multimedia skills she's acquired to this point in her life are self-taught. So while she joins Elon's new Interactive Media master's program with some communications experience already, she's also hoping to augment the technical side of her resume.

Eleven faculty members and a student in the School of Communications participated in the 2009 national convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication in Boston, Mass., on August 5-8.

Elon University launched its one-year, full-time Interactive Media master's program Aug. 3 and welcomed 37 students into the inaugural class. Coursework began Aug. 4 with a three-week Digital Media Workshop before the start of the fall semester.
