It Takes a Village

Over the three-day session, 18 students from Alamance-Burlington School System's middle and high schools spent time on Elon's campus learning about how food is essentially medicine.

Over 150 ABSS students spent two weeks on Elon's campus for the Summer in the Village program, sharpening their math skills through various music concepts.

Students, parents, and tutors and teachers from Elon and Alamance-Burlington School System gathered to honor 15 years of impact from the Village Project.

The partnership between Elon University and Alamance-Burlington School System is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

The "Little Village" first began in 2014 and focused on pre-Kindergarten children in Alamance County. The program was suspended during the pandemic and will pick back up at four ABSS schools.

Over 200 ABSS students spent two weeks on Elon's campus for the Summer in the Village program to sharpening their math skills through various music concepts and study the various functions of the heart.

Free comes to Elon from Kentucky State University where she has served as the 4-H State program leader, 4-H specialist and director of the Rosenwald 4-H Youth Development Center for the past five years.

This fall Elon’s “It Takes a Village Project” was able to work with 11 of the 12 Title I elementary schools in the Alamance-Burlington School System thanks to a grant from the Oak Foundation.

Elon’s renowned program for struggling young readers has received new Oak Foundation funding to serve more children over the next five years.

The It Take A Village Project took on a virtual form this spring, as Elon students partnered with K-5 students from seven local elementary schools for 10 weeks of tutoring and connections.
