The Elon Law Sports & Entertainment Law Society, together with the law school's Office of Career Services, hosted a Sports & Entertainment Law panel on Oct. 10. The event was moderated by Visiting Professor of Law David Maraghy, CEO of Sports Management International, Inc.

On Sept. 19, Professor Ronald Rychlak of the University of Mississipi School of Law spoke to Elon Law students about the International Criminal Court (ICC) and how it affects international conflicts and peace negotiations. Elon Law's Federalist Society organized the event.

Elon Law's Hooper Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) received two national awards in September at the Phi Alpha Delta District XXV Conference. The awards were: The Most Outstanding Chapter in District XXV for the 2010-11 Academic Year and The "Meet or Beat Recruitment Award" for the 2010-11 Academic Year.

Elon Law professors Michael Rich, Sonya Garza and Andy Haile published an op-ed article in the Sunday, Sept. 25 edition of the News & Record arguing that, "our Constitution is not a place for provisions that marginalize minorities or restrict liberties."

Marking the school's first five years and the achievement of full approval from the American Bar Association, a broad spectrum of the Elon Law community came together for an evening of celebration on Oct. 6. Elon Law professors Scott Gaylord and Andy Haile co-authored the article, "Constitutional Threats in the E-Commerce Jungle: First Amendment and Dormant Commerce Clause Limits on Amazon Laws and Use Tax Reporting Statutes." The article was published in the September 2011 edition of the North Carolina Law Review.

On Oct. 14, law school dean George R. Johnson, Jr. announced that Greensboro attorneys Mike Marshall and Karen McKeithen Schaede are the recipients of Elon University School of Law's 2011 Leadership in the Law Award. The award recognizes lawyers who make outstanding contributions to the profession and to society.

Elon Law Executive Coach in Residence Bonnie McAlister presented a Continuing Legal Education program at the 33rd Annual Conference of North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys on Sept. 16.

Please Join the Black Law Students Association and the Office of Career Services at Elon Law for a panel entitled "Minority Perspectives in the Profession" this Wednesday from 5:15-6:15 pm. There will be a reception from 6:15-7:15. The location is Classroom 204 followed by the reception in Cemala Commons. Panelists will share their career paths and the experiences/challenges they have faced as a minority through law school and their careers, thus far.

Elon University School of Law and the Elon Law Review are major sponsors of a jointly presented conference scheduled for Nov. 4 in Raleigh, NC, titled, "A Radical Notion of Democracy: Law, Race, and Albion Tourgée, 1865-1905."
