New faculty member: Henry Gabriel, visiting professor of law

Henry Gabriel comes to Elon from Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans, where he has served on the faculty since 1984. Since 1998, he has been the De Van Daggett Professor of Law, teaching courses in contracts, commercial law, Federal appellate advocacy, international arbitration and international business transactions.

New faculty member: Peter Hoffman, visiting professor of law

A renowned expert in litigation and advocacy skills, Peter Hoffman joins the Elon law faculty after serving for the past year as Fulbright Senior Scholar at Chinese University in Hong Kong. Prior to that, he was director of the Blakeley Advocacy Institute at the University of Houston Law Center. Hoffman has served as the Neibel Professor of Law and the Newell H. Blakeley Chair in Evidence at Houston and has served as director of clinical legal education since 2005.

New faculty member: Larry A. Hammond, visiting professor of law

Larry A. Hammond joins the Elon faculty in Fall 2008 while on sabbatical from the law firm of Osborn Maledon, P.A. in Phoenix, Ariz. Hammond served as law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Hugo Black and Lewis Powell, Jr., and was assistant special prosecutor for the U.S. Justice Department’s Watergate Special Prosecution Force in 1973-74.

Elon Law hosts conference on Financial Assistance to Public Interest Attorneys

Elon Law hosted a state-wide conference organized by the North Carolina Legal Education Assistance Foundation (NCLEAF) on May 22. The group heard a presentation by Heather Jarvis of Equal Justice Works on the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 which provides exciting opportunities for income-based repayment and loan forgiveness options for public interest attorneys.
