Bill Burpitt, LSB associate dean for graduate and executive programs and professor of management, and Matthew Valle, professor of management, recently published an article, “Balancing Exploration and Exploitation in a Declining Industry: Antecedents to Firm Adaptation Strategy and Performance,” in the most recent issue (21, 1) of the Journal of Small Business Strategy. The article explores why some firms are better able than others to adapt to threatening changes in their markets.

Gary Palin, a senior lecturer and executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, is one of seven individuals in a joint entrepreneurial venture that has raised more than $2.4 million from investors with interest in the company’s GPS technology to track people and pets.

Christina Benson, assistant professor of business law and ethics, was one of four legal scholars selected to present her work at the annual “Invited Scholars Colloquium” held during the 2011 Academy of Legal Studies in Business conference in New Orleans this month.

Robert H. Moorman joins Elon University’s faculty this month as the Frank S. Holt, Jr., Professor of Business Leadership in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Named in honor of the former president of Holt Manufacturing Co. in Burlington, N.C., the professorship honors the vision, leadership and compassion that were trademarks of Frank Holt’s career.

Betsy Stevens, an associate professor of business administration at the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, received a citation award this summer from the Journal of Business Ethics for her article, “An Analysis of Corporate Ethical Code Studies: Where Do We Go From Here?”

Elon’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary organization for financial information students and professionals, was awarded “Gold chapter” status during the national organization’s annual conference this month in Denver. Elon was one of seven chapters to achieve the honor, which is the highest award level a chapter can receive.

The best and brightest of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business were honored April 14, 2011, in an afternoon awards ceremony that highlighted the achievements of both students and faculty.

Samuel L. Burke '89, a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers' national independence office, received the Beta Alpha Psi Business Information Professional of the Year Award this month at the annual Beta Alpha Psi meetings in Denver.

John G. Currin Jr., president and chief executive officer of Alamance Regional Medical Center and ARMC Healthcare since 2005, was honored at a June 22 campus luncheon with the Frank S. Holt, Jr. Business Leadership Award, Elon University’s highest honor for business leadership.
