Katy Rouse, assistant professor of economics, recently presented her new paper, "Curing the summertime blues: the impact of year-round schooling on academic achievement," at the Allied Social Science Associations Jan. 6-9, 2011. The ASSA is the largest annual economics conference, attracting more than 10,000 academic and government economists from all over the world.

Economics professors, Tina Das and Steve DeLoach published their paper, "Mirror, mirror on the wall: The effect of time spent grooming on earnings," in the Journal of Socio-Economics (Vol 40, 2011, pp 26-34).

Keyaha Wescott, internship coordinator for the Love School of Business, has been appointed to serve on the Raleigh Community Advisory Board of the North Carolina Regional Black Chamber of Commerce.

Thomas K. Tiemann, Jefferson Pilot Professor of Economics, has been named a trustee of Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo.

Tina Das, professor of economics, and Casey Dirienzo, associate professor of economics and associate dean of the Love School of Business, have published a paper titled “Quality of Political Management and the Role of Corruption: A Cross Country Analysis" in International Journal of Public Administration, 33(14): 832 – 842.

Christina Benson, assistant professor of business law in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, presented a paper, "Reviving Ancient Trade Routes: Can Iraq Leverage Trade and the WTO Accession Process to Rebuild its Post Conflict Economy?," at the annual Southeastern Academy of Legal Studies in Business conference, held in Charleston, SC in November.

An article authored by Barth Strempek, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship, was recently published in the Academy of Educational Leadership Journal. The piece entitled, "Integrated Business Core Curricula (Undergraduate): What Have We Learned in over Twenty Years?," appears in the Special Edition on Engaged Learning (Volume 14). Strempek was the lead author with Stewart W. Husted (Virginia Military Institute) and Peter Gray (United States Naval Academy).

Thomas Tiemann, Jefferson Pilot Professor of Economics, is teaching a two-week course, "The Economics of Cities," at Universytet Ekonomiczny w Krakowie (Cracow University of Economics) this semester in Krakow, Poland.

The MBA Student Alumni Association hosted a golf tournament that raised $1,000 in support of the Elon Academy Dream Fund, a special budget created by the association three years ago to assist Elon Academy with college visits, involve students in school and community projects, and help students and families when unexpected life situations arise.
