More than 60 Elon MBA students, alums and faculty came out to the third annual Cocktails & A Musical event on Saturday, February 13, at the McCrary Theatre. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were followed a performance of the musical “110 in the Shade.” The evening was sponsored by the Elon MBA Student-Alumni Association.

Christy Benson, an assistant professor of business law and ethics, and Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and senior lecturer of entrepreneurship, presented Feb. 9 at the 2010 Civic Engagement Institute hosted by North Carolina Campus Compact.

Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, was a judge Jan. 29 for the Executive Summary Round of the Global Social Venture Competition hosted by University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Bill Gradison, a founding member and former chair of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), will be speaking about the response of accountants and auditors to the current financial environment on Monday, February 15, at 8:00 pm in the LaRose Digital Theatre. A fundraising effort by the Elon University men’s golf team and spearheaded by an MBA student debuts next month with “Eagles for Haiti,” a pledge drive that asks sponsors to donate money toward recovery efforts in the battered Caribbean nation for every eagle scored this season by male golfers in the Southern Conference.

The "Business of NASCAR" business course raised $700 during Winter Term for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, which brings the course’s three-year total contribution to more than $1,200 for a nonprofit organization in North Carolina that serves children with chronic or serious medical conditions.

Tina Das, professor of economics in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, was recently elected vice president and member of the board of directors of the International Economics Honor Society Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE). Professor Das is the faculty advisor to the Pi Chapter of ODE at Elon University and was elected to this position during the American Economic Association national meeting held in Atlanta, January 2010.
