Seventy-eight faculty and student leaders of university social entrepreneurship programs and activities participated in a two-day Social Entrepreneurship and Education Consortium workshop from April 2-3 co-hosted by Elon University Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Purdue University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative.

And “really good software.” Jim Goodnight, co-founder and CEO of the North Carolina-based SAS, reflected on his career and offered advice to Elon students in an April 9 presentation that preceded his acceptance of the first ever Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Jim Goodnight, chief executive officer of North Carolina-based SAS, the world’s largest privately held software company, will be presented April 9 with the first ever Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership after his a presentation to faculty, staff and students on "Managing for Creativity: Attracting & Retaining Knowledge Workers."

Twenty students were inducted April 7 into Elon's Pi Chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society for economics. The complete list of inductees and officers follows below.

Is the research a professor conducts “selfish” since it takes away his or her time from students? Or is it “selfless,” a way for faculty to better themselves in the classroom? Earl Honeycutt, the 2008-2009 Distinguished Scholar at Elon, takes the latter view and shared his views April 6 in an annual program for recipients of the award.

Three of the nation’s top young entrepreneurs visit campus April 14 for a half-day conference to help students, faculty, staff and others in the community with an interest in starting their own enterprises. Registration is now open for the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour, presented by the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Student Entrepreneurial Enterprise Development (SEED) student group.

Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and senior lecturer of entrepreneurship in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, was a featured speaker and moderated the lead panel discussion launching the 2009 MIT Global Startup Workshop in Cape Town, South Africa held on March 25.

The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business has been named one of 57 institutions worldwide to have their business programs reaccredited this spring by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the premier worldwide accrediting agency of collegiate business schools and accounting programs.

Professor Earl Honeycutt, Elon University's 2008-2009 Distinguished Scholar, will give a presentation tonight in the LaRose Digital Theatre on the role of academic research in a university setting and whether such research is a “selfish” pursuit or an essential activity that allows a professor to remain on the cutting edge of their discipline and mentor future scholars.
