Seven music and music theatre Majors were winners and regional qualifiers at the N.C. National Association of Teachers of Singing Music Theatre Competition.

Matthew Buckmaster, assistant professor of music and education, performed with the Carolina Jazz Trombone Collective at the annual North Carolina Music Educators' Conference in Winston-Salem on Nov. 8, 2010. The session was an invitation back from a similar presentation at last year's conference and was attended by music educators from across the state.

Omri Shimron, assistant professor of music, will be performing a new work dedicated to him by American composer Christopher Dietz at the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference on Sunday, Nov. 14. The conference will be hosted by the University of South Carolina School of Music in Columbia, S.C.

Matthew Buckmaster, assistant professor of music and education, was recently invited to adjudicate the 2010 Mid-State Marching Band Invitational at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn.

Dr. Thomas Erdmann, professor of music, had three 6,000-word articles featured on the front cover of the November/December 2010 issue of Saxophone Journal.

Omri Shimron, assistant professor of music, chaired a paper session at the National Conference of the College Music Society in Minneapolis on Friday, Sept. 24.

Omri Shimron, an assistant professor of music, will be performing a Guest Artist Piano Recital at the Margo Jones Performance Hall on the campus of Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, on Monday, Sept. 20.

“Text as the Basis for Text-less Music: 11th Century Poetry Meets a 21st Century Composer,” a symposium sponsored by Elon University's Department of Music with contributions from the Department of English, takes place Sept. 13-15 to address the way in which instrumental music evokes, interprets and represents poetic texts, and the process by which composers craft “abstract” sounds from written sources.

Omri Shimron, assistant professor of music, has been invited to perform a new ensemble work in a faculty-artist recital at the Arizona State University School of Music on Sunday, Sept. 12.
