Parents Neil and Jennifer Wizel P’28 are among the latest donors to make generous gifts to Elon's new home for health and wellness that will serve all students, faculty and staff.

Learn more about the work of the two campus leaders who are researching the respective approaches to finance and administration at Elon University and Queens University of Charlotte in the lead-up to a merger between the two institutions. 

Through a once-in-a-generation investment in North Carolina education by Marjorie and Hal Roberts, the new academy - set to open in Fall 2026 - will be the state's only university-based private school for children with dyslexia.

Assistant Professor Alicia Tate will guide the launch and initial development of the academy, drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, instructional coach, district administrator, and consultant.

Co-leads of a merger Sprint Team comprised of administrative and academic leaders from Elon University and Queens University of Charlotte report several themes are emerging that represent exciting possibilities for students, faculty, staff and the Charlotte region.

A daylong gathering on Elon University's campus included a campus tour for the guests from Queens as well as a series of roundtable discussions.

Elon University President Connie Ledoux Book and Queens University of Charlotte Acting President Jesse Cureton describe in campus messages on Oct. 23, 2025, how "our colleagues are forming new bonds and reaffirming the values that unite us: student-centered learning, a commitment to academic excellence and a deep history of advancing our communities."

Elon’s “deep sense of commitment” to student success inspired Trustee Debra Del Vecchio P’22 P’24 to generously contribute to the center that will integrate academics, wellness, campus recreation and fitness programs to ensure students gain the skills they need to thrive on campus and beyond.

The gift from Ilene and Andy Cantos P’25 will strengthen Jewish Life on campus by providing valuable funding for internships, student scholarships, facilities and programs.

Listening sessions, town halls and a feedback form have generated hundreds of comments and ideas that inspire the administrators creating a formal agreement to unify resources and expand student learning opportunities at both institutions.
